TGO in collaboration with JICA organized the 5th CITC Regional Conference:Virtual talks on the climate crisis: Call for collaborative leadership“Build Back Better Together” in Southeast Asia
Bangkok: On 18 September 2020, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment or MoNRE by Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency organized a live talk on the 5th CITC Regional Conference: Virtual talks on the climate crisis: Call for collaborative leadership “Build Back Better Together” in Southeast Asia. The objective is to update situation and action of climate change affected by the disease pandemic, call for climate actions on economic recovery from brown to green, and to share and learn from the crisis to climate action in the future. In this regard, participants both in Thailand and from the ASEAN region attended this online conference.
The Conference was divided into 5 sessions from 14 speakers including;
- Plenary Session: The 21st Century Threat (Climate Change and Pandemic) by
Mr. Deo Gabinete from NDC Partnership - Discussion Session: How does New Normal from COVID-19 Affect Climate Goal
- New Normal (New Abnormal) from COVID-19 by Dr. Mushtaq Memon from UNEP and Mr. Watcharayu Kuawong from Tourism Authority of Thailand, moderated by Dr. Issara Poljungreed, Technical Expert from CITC
- How Its Effect to Climate Goal (Short Term – Long Term) by Dr. Kollawat Sakhakara from ONEP, Mr. Jens Radschinski from UNFCCC RCC, and Dr. Peter King จาก IGES, moderated by Mr. Makoto Kato from OECC
- Plenary Session: Recovering Better by Dr. Mushtaq Memonfrom UNEP
- Discussion Session: Transformation to Capacity-building Approach: Tools and issues of capacity-building to ensure knowledge sharing during the pandemic which was moderated by Mr. Koji Fukuda from JICA with honors from 3 people who have trained in CITC courses, which were Ms. Aznie Rahim from Malaysia, Ms. Mellissa Low from Singapore and Mr. Joe Mari S. Francisco from Philippines, including Mr. Thawatchai Saengkhamsuk from CITC and Dr. Budit Limmeechokchai from SIIT Participated in the discussion at this session.
- Discussion Session on the topic of Lesson – Learned from Pandemic: Learning from the crisis for preparing climate action in the future by Dr. Stefanos Fotiou from UNESCAP and Mr. Koji Fukuda from JICA, the session moderated by Mr. Thawatchai Saengkhamsuk from CITC.
